The honest distinction
Personal use is one person running Phyllax on their own machine to watch tools they themselves use. Your own Gmail. Your own GitHub. Your own Slack at work, if you're paying for it personally. No license required, no signup, no nag screen.
Team / commercial use is anything your employer would care about: distributing Phyllax to your colleagues, running it on machines owned by your company, paying for it out of a department budget, or building products on top of it. That's where the commercial license comes in.

The personal tier is the free trial — it's the same product. Run it on your own machine first. If your team wants to standardize on it, then the commercial license discussion makes sense.

Phyllax already runs on-premises in the only sense that matters — it's a desktop app on each user's machine. There's no central server to host. With a commercial license, you can additionally point Phyllax at your internal AI endpoint (vLLM, LM Studio, internal Bedrock, etc.) so even inference stays inside your perimeter.
Not yet. The source lives in a private repo while the API surface stabilizes. Open-sourcing the core is on the table once it settles. The commercial license model would persist either way — free for personal use, paid for team/company use.
No. There is no Phyllax server. Your credentials are encrypted with the OS keychain. Your AI provider keys go directly from your machine to the provider you chose. License validation, if there is any, runs against a minimal endpoint that only sees the license key.
