Brave Search
Brave Search API gives Phyllax a privacy-respecting web search alternative to Google/Bing. Built on Brave's independent index.
Quick Setup
- Go to api.search.brave.com → Sign up
- Copy your Subscription Token from the dashboard
- In Phyllax → Integrations → Brave Search → paste the token → Save
Generous free tier
Brave's "Free AI" plan gives you 2,000 queries/month with no credit card. Higher tiers start at $3 per 1,000 queries.

What Phyllax Uses Brave For

| AI Chat web lookups | When the assistant needs a quick fact-check or URL lookup, it can route through Brave. |
| Tavily fallback | If Tavily is rate-limited or unavailable, Deep Research falls back to Brave. |

Troubleshooting
"Authentication failed"
The Subscription Token field is the value labeled "Data Subscription Token" on Brave's dashboard, not your account password. Re-check.
"Quota exhausted"
You've hit the monthly limit. Free tier resets monthly; paid tiers bill per-query.
Empty results for queries that should match
Brave's index is independent — some niche queries return fewer results than Google would. Try rephrasing, or configure Tavily as a fallback.
